Alignments

Alignments should be done every time you get a new set of steer tires.

An out of aligned truck will rob your fuel mileage andcause pre-mature tire wear.
Alignments are now conveniently done on site at the Springfield and Pittston terminals.

Balance and Rotation

Steers need to be rotated at 75,000 miles.
Directional Tires may be rotated to change direction at ½ their tread life or around 75,000 miles on steer tires.
Drive Tires should not be rotated unless they are showing 3/32nd difference in tread. If the tires are wearing evenly there is no reason to rotate and risk damage due to dismounting the tires.

Air Pressure

Improper air pressure can cause mpg to drastically decline and cause you to replace tires pre-maturely. If a tire runs 10 psi under/over inflated in a dual application approximately 15%-20% of the tread life can be lost. Having the tire maintain a consistent shape throughout its life helps in extending the life of the tire, which in return lowers your cost per mile.

Air Pressure should be checked daily.
Tires need to cool down for three hours prior to checking psi.
All wide base and dual drives need to be set at 100 psi.
- The max psi is listed on the sidewall of a wide base tire of 120 psi is based on 20,400 lbs. per axle.
- We only need 17,000 lbs. per axle, thus giving us an optimal psi of 100.
All steer tires need to be at 110 psi.
Air gauges can be purchased in the company store.
PSI monitor systems for your truck can be purchased at the parts room.
IMPORTANT: ANY TIRE THAT IS 50% BELOW MANUFACTURES RECOMMENDED PSI RATING WILL COST YOU 30 POINTS ON YOUR CSA 2010.

Pre Trip Inspections

Inspect Drive tires to make sure the tread is above 2/32.
Inspect Steer tires to make sure the tread is above 4/32.
Less than 2/32 in any two adjacent major groove points will put you out of service.
Tread depth gauges can be provided to you by the Tire Bay in Springfield or Company Stores in PA or SLC Terminals.
Inspect Trailer and Truck tires for Bulges, Abrasions, or cuts to the tread or sidewalls.
Inspect Tires for any exposed cords. There should be no body ply or belt material exposed.

DOT Violation

Drives less than 2/32 tread depth.
Steers less than 4/32 tread depth.
Less than 2/32 in any two adjacent major groove points will put you out of service.
Tread depth gauges can be provided to you by the Tire Bay in Springfield or Company Stores in PA or SLC Terminals.
Bulges in Tires of up to 3/8 of an inch in height is allowed.
Any exposed body ply or belt material through the tread or sidewall.

Our goal is to maximize tire life and help you achieve the lowest tire cost per mile possible.

Coming in to one of our terminals to do tire work will ensure you have someone looking after your best interest and will also save you money.

IMPORTANT: We recommend getting the most use out of your tires. If the Tires have no visible damage and are exhibiting regular wear pattern on all tread you can anticipate approximately 10,000 miles per 32 of tread. Please keep this in mind when deciding when to bring the unit in for Tire Inspection.
